Written by Edoardo PescucciSuper League was back on last weekend: The eighteenth edition opened with the match between Leeds Rhinos and Hull FC at Headingley on Friday night, which saw the defending champions beat without too much trouble Hull FC 36-6 . In the other Friday match, Wigan Warriors have smashed Salford City Reds with a sharp 42-0: nothing could our Chris Black, who will play the Rugby League World Cup in October with the national team, in front of the excessive power of the Warriors.

On Saturday, St.Helens’ Anthony Laffranchi, another Super League Italian player, were beaten by the Huddersfield Giants inLangtreePark: a defeat, although suffered only in the first round, that casts doubt on the Saints credibility playoffs-wise: 4-40 was the final score.

Predictions respected in the match on Sunday, the only bitter surprise was for London Broncos who were beaten 14-28 at home by Widnes Vikings, a team whose qualities and ambitions are certainly lower than theLondonteam’s. Bad debut as captain for Craig Gower, then, who just a few days ago said that the Broncos will be fighting for a place in the Top 8 this year.

FIRL want to wish good luck to all its players and their respective clubs in Super League, and hope that this 2013 will be a momentous year both for the competition and rugby league.
